The Beautiful People, Grand Galas & Italian Glamour Around the World
From the palazzos of Rome and Milan to Manhattan's private clubs, Miami's waterfront mansions and Hollywood's red carpets, Italian style continues to make its presence felt wherever fashionable people gather.
There is something unmistakably Italian about a great party. The food must be exceptional, the wine should be memorable, the company interesting and the conversation lively enough to last well beyond midnight. A beautiful setting certainly helps, but the real ingredient is personality.
Italian and Italian-American society has always enjoyed an intriguing mixture of old-world elegance and modern celebrity. Fashion designers mingle with financiers, opera singers exchange stories with film producers, and the occasional Hollywood superstar discovers that the most entertaining person in the room is a restaurateur from Naples or a third-generation businessman from Brooklyn.
This season, the social calendar stretches from grand Italian-American galas in New York and Washington to Milan Fashion Week, romantic Tuscan weddings, the Rome Film Fest and a lively assortment of fashionable gatherings around the world.
Sebastian Maniscalco Takes Center Stage at the NIAF Gala
Few comedians have turned the Italian-American family experience into an entertainment empire quite like Sebastian Maniscalco. His observations about parents, restaurants, weddings, manners and the peculiar rituals of family life have made him one of America's most successful stand-up performers.
On October 17, the National Italian American Foundation celebrates its 51st Anniversary Gala at the historic Washington Hilton, with Maniscalco receiving the organization's Dea Roma Special Achievement Award in Entertainment.
The black-tie evening includes distinguished Italian and Italian-American guests, a dinner inspired by Lombardia, the foundation's 2026 Region of Honor, and a special performance by Maniscalco himself.
Also among the announced honorees is Anthony Capuano, president and CEO of Marriott International, recognized for his accomplishments in hospitality.
Washington's Italian-American gala remains more than a splendid dinner. It brings together civic leaders, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, entertainers and diplomats whose achievements demonstrate the considerable influence of the Italian-American community.

Manhattan Celebrates Italian-American Society in Grand Style
New York's annual Columbus Weekend has long been one of the great occasions on the Italian-American social calendar. The 2026 celebrations maintained the tradition with an elegant gala, religious observances, distinguished honorees and the spectacular Fifth Avenue parade.
The Columbus Citizens Foundation, whose headquarters occupy a handsome townhouse on East 69th Street, organized its 82nd annual celebration while marking 250 years of Italian contributions to America.
The society festivities included a formal gala at Cipriani 55 Wall Street hosted by television personality Maria Bartiromo, followed by the annual parade on October 12.
Financier and philanthropist Ray Dalio served as Grand Marshal. The foundation also recognized Ambassador Leandro Rizzuto and Dr. Evelyn C. Granieri for their achievements.
New York's Italian-American establishment has always represented an especially interesting combination of professions. From Wall Street and real estate to restaurants, entertainment, fashion and philanthropy, the community possesses a remarkable network of accomplished personalities.
The foundation's gatherings are particularly appealing because they combine traditional family pride with contemporary business influence. Black ties and evening gowns are certainly part of the picture, but so are scholarships, cultural preservation and introductions that sometimes become lifelong friendships.
And, of course, there is nothing quite like watching Fifth Avenue surrender itself to a sea of red, white and green.

Damiano David and Dove Cameron: A Tuscan Love Story
One of the season's most talked-about celebrity weddings took place in the Tuscan countryside when Italian rock star Damiano David, internationally famous as the charismatic frontman of Måneskin, married American actress and singer Dove Cameron.
The couple exchanged vows in Montalcino on September 24, followed by celebrations associated with the extraordinary Castiglion del Bosco estate in the Val d'Orcia countryside.
The wedding offered precisely the sort of fashionable romance that society columnists adore: beautiful Italian scenery, designer clothing, a celebrated international couple and the unmistakable atmosphere of an intimate European celebration.
Cameron's wedding wardrobe attracted considerable attention, with Italian fashion playing a starring role. The couple's choice of Tuscany reinforced the region's reputation as a favorite destination for sophisticated weddings, whether the bride and groom are world-famous entertainers or prosperous Americans seeking an unforgettable setting.
For Damiano, whose stage persona has always leaned toward provocative rock-and-roll glamour, a romantic Tuscan ceremony offered a particularly appealing contrast.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Vittoria Ceretti and an Extraordinary Guest List
Italian supermodel Vittoria Ceretti and Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio continued to attract attention on the international celebrity circuit when the two were spotted in Hawaii during festivities surrounding the wedding of jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer and Geoffrey Ogunlesi.
The October 10 wedding at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai attracted an impressive collection of famous friends, with reported guests including Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez, Kate Hudson, Courteney Cox and DiCaprio.
In one of the wedding's more unusual social twists, Meyer's former husband, actor Tobey Maguire, officiated the ceremony.
Ceretti, whose modeling career has taken her from Italian runways to the world's major fashion capitals, has become a familiar presence in celebrity coverage surrounding DiCaprio.
Their relationship continues to fascinate the international fashion press, although both have generally kept their private lives out of the spotlight.
For observers of Italian fashion, Ceretti's success represents another reminder that Italy exports considerably more than exceptional handbags, automobiles and wine. Its models are among the most recognizable faces in international luxury culture.
The Rumor Mill, Without the Rumors
Who needs an invented scandal when the actual guest lists are this entertaining? An Italian supermodel attends a Hawaiian billionaire wedding alongside Hollywood royalty. A famous actor officiates his former wife's marriage. A Roman rock star exchanges his rebellious stage image for a romantic Tuscan wedding.
Meanwhile, the international fascination with Italy as a destination for weddings, villa parties and fashionable escapes shows no sign of disappearing.
One thing remains certain: an invitation to a private Italian villa party still carries considerably more mystique than another ordinary Hollywood cocktail reception.
Fashion, Politics and Society Meet at Palazzo Reale
Milan Fashion Week has never been exclusively about what happens on the runway. The dinners, private receptions, designer celebrations and invitation-only parties are often where the city's most interesting conversations take place.
In September, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana held its annual gala dinner at Palazzo Reale, bringing together influential figures from fashion, culture and politics.
The evening also celebrated the opening of an exhibition exploring the relationship between Salvador Dalí and fashion. Among the guests highlighted in coverage of the occasion were Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Coming immediately after Vogue World Milano's transformation of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II into a spectacular fashion setting, the festivities demonstrated Milan's remarkable talent for turning art, commerce and culture into grand social occasions.
It is a city where beautiful clothes are taken seriously, but where a successful evening also requires excellent food, discreet service and a guest list that moves effortlessly between the creative and financial worlds.
The Eternal City Rolls Out Its Red Carpet
Rome is welcoming the 21st edition of the Rome Film Fest, with screenings and festivities running from October 13 through October 25.
The festival's principal venue, the Auditorium Parco della Musica, provides a grand setting for cinema premieres, film personalities and the social gatherings that naturally accompany a major international cultural event.
This year's official poster pays tribute to the legendary Italian actress Monica Vitti, whose unforgettable performances helped define the sophisticated image of Italian cinema during the 1960s.
The Rome Film Fest has particular social appeal because the city's cinematic heritage is impossible to separate from its broader culture of restaurants, grand hotels, beautiful architecture and international society.
For visitors, the attraction extends well beyond a movie premiere. A dinner near the Spanish Steps, an aperitivo overlooking a historic piazza or an intimate gathering in a private palazzo can be just as memorable as the red carpet.

Sophia Loren: Still the Gold Standard
Long before social media influencers became fixtures of international celebrity culture, Sophia Loren established a standard of Italian glamour that remains instantly recognizable.
Her appeal was never merely physical. Loren possessed wit, confidence, humor and a screen presence that conveyed both sophistication and unmistakable Italian personality.
Born in Rome and raised in the Naples area, she became an international star while retaining the warmth and authenticity of her Italian background. Her association with great filmmakers, fashion houses and international society helped make her an enduring cultural ambassador.
Today's celebrated Italian actresses and models operate in a very different media environment, but Loren's example remains influential. In a world obsessed with fleeting celebrity, genuine star quality never goes out of fashion.
Italian-American entertainment figures continue that tradition in their own ways. Stanley Tucci has turned his affection for Italian food and family culture into a recognizable part of his public personality. Lady Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, has repeatedly celebrated her Italian-American roots while becoming one of the most influential performers of her generation.
And filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese have introduced generations of audiences to the complexities, humor, ambition and contradictions of Italian-American life in New York.
What links these famous personalities is not a single style of celebrity. It is the way Italian heritage remains visible through storytelling, family traditions, creative expression and personal identity.
Joe Mantegna Leads the Italian Heritage Parade
Actor Joe Mantegna served as Grand Marshal of San Francisco's 158th Italian Heritage Parade in October. The North Beach celebration brought together community organizations, cultural groups, bands and an enthusiastic crowd honoring the city's Italian-American history.
Rick Sasso Honored at a Waterfront Reception
In September, NIAF presented a Miami reception at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science honoring Rick Sasso, chairman of MSC Cruises North America, for his distinguished career in the cruise industry. The occasion connected Italian-American entrepreneurial achievement with South Florida's international maritime community.
A Social Season Built on Heritage
The Italian Cultural Society of Naples and the Italian American Society of Southwest Florida continue to offer cultural luncheons, dinners, lectures and social gatherings. These organizations are an important part of the Gulf Coast's Italian-American social fabric.
Italian-American Entertainers Remain in Demand
Whether appearing on film sets, concert stages, television programs or charity gala invitations, performers including Sebastian Maniscalco, Stanley Tucci, Lady Gaga and longtime Hollywood favorite Danny DeVito keep Italian-American personalities prominent in popular culture.
The Enduring Appeal of a Private Italian Villa
From Lake Como's grand lakeside estates to the terraces of Portofino and the magnificent properties of the Amalfi Coast, Italy continues to represent the ultimate setting for discreet luxury. International celebrities may come for the scenery, but the food, hospitality and privacy often keep them returning.
Why Italian-American Society Still Matters
There was a time when nearly every major American city had a bustling collection of Italian social clubs, mutual-aid societies, cultural organizations and neighborhood associations. Some were exclusive, some were informal, and others brought together families whose immigrant grandparents had worked hard to establish a new life in America.
Many of these organizations continue today, although the nature of society has changed. The younger generation may be equally comfortable discussing technology startups, global investments, the arts or luxury travel as they are talking about the family restaurant business.
Groups such as UNICO National, the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, the Columbus Citizens Foundation and the National Italian American Foundation serve an important purpose beyond organizing enjoyable gatherings. They preserve cultural connections, recognize individual achievement, support educational opportunities and introduce accomplished Italians and Italian Americans to one another.
In Florida, where transplanted New Yorkers, Midwesterners and Northeastern families now mingle with Italian expatriates and international residents, these relationships are especially valuable. Palm Beach, Naples, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Miami offer a growing variety of occasions where business, philanthropy and Italian culture intersect.
For Italian-American society to remain vibrant, its next chapter will depend on welcoming younger professionals, entrepreneurs, artists and families while preserving the warmth and hospitality that made the community successful in the first place.
A Proper Party Is Never Merely a Party
The best Italian social occasions are not measured by the number of celebrities photographed at the entrance, the expense of the decorations or even the quality of the champagne.
They are remembered for the people who met, the stories exchanged, the friendships renewed and the unexpected introductions that became something important.
That is the essence of la dolce vita: enjoying the pleasures of life with good company, excellent taste and enough time to appreciate both.
